Water Baptism

Water baptism is a time when we celebrate with those who have decided to go public with their faith. This is a special time for the believer. Water baptisms happen throughout the year during our Sunday gathering.

Common Questions

What is water baptism?

As you are immersed in water, you bury your old sinful nature. When you come out of the water, you experience the new life and resurrection in Jesus.
(Colossians 2:12, Romans 6:4)

Who should be baptized?

Once you have committed yourself to Jesus Christ and acknowledge Him as Lord by turning away from sin and trusting Him, you are ready for water baptism.
(Acts 2:41; 8:12-13)

Why should I be baptized?

To follow the example set by Christ. (Mark 1:9) Because Christ commanded it. (Matthew 28:19-20) It demonstrates that you really are a believer. (1 John 2:3)

Why do we baptize by submersion?

The word “baptize” means to “dip under water.” Because Jesus was baptized that way. (Matthew 3:16) Every biblical baptism was by immersion. (Acts 8:38-39)

Should I be baptized again?

Your baptism should have signified you becoming a follower of Jesus, beginning a changed life, and uniting with a new family. If your baptism did not reflect this change of life for you, you should be baptized again.

Can my child or infant be baptized?

At City Church, we wait until our children are old enough to believe and understand the true meaning of baptism before we baptize them. When a child makes a decision to follow Christ, we will gladly baptize them.

When should I arrive?

If you are getting baptized we ask that you arrive at City Church by 9:30am. This allows time for us to meet with all those being baptized and explain the process as well as answer any questions.

Can I invite people?

Of course! Having friends and family to celebrate with you at your baptism is a great way to show them that you are serious in your commitment to Christ.

What should I wear?

When you arrive at City Church you will be given a City Church t-shirt to wear during the baptism. However, we do ask that you wear a dark-colored pair of pants or shorts that you’re not afraid to get wet.
